The Colonel William Marsh Bower Center will honor and Celebrate Col. Bower‘s 100th birthday at this year’s Runway Fest event. The Ravenna local, a pilot from the famous Doolittle Raiders, died six years shy of his 100th birthday in January of 2011. He has been hailed as a hero for his help in successfully completing the first air attack on Japanese soil, following the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941.

Prior to serving in the Ohio National Guard 107th Calvary and graduating from then Army Air Force Flying School, Bower attended Ravenna High School, Hiram College and Kent State University. And though he did not return to Ravenna, Ohio, following his service, his legacy has not been forgotten in the local community. The Colonel William Marsh Bower Center serves to create educational programming in his honor for generations to come.

The Runway Fest event will be Sept. 2, 2017 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Portage County Regional Airport. Attendees are encouraged to fly and cruise to the event in their favorite vehicle. Owners of registered vehicles will have the opportunity to win cash prizes for the People’s Choice, Most Unique and Best of Show awards.

A detailed schedule of this and all other Runway Fest events will be shared soon. Follow us on Facebook for the latest updates.
